Summit, New Jersey
Firefighters Mutual Benevolent Association
Local #54
Did you know you can donate your vehicle to the Summit Fire Department and receive a tax write off.  We use donated vehicles for training purposes such as practicing and trying new techniques in extrication and stabilization.

These are some of the programs we are involved in:
ACBC-Aluminum Cans For Burned Children, we urge all residents and businesses to collect recyclable aluminum cans and bring them to Summit Fire Headquarters.  We have a collection trailer located in the Cedar Street lot where you can drop off your aluminum cans that will benefit children who have been burned. Each time the trailer if full  of cans an FMBA member will hook up and tow the trailer with his personal vehicle to a metal recycle center where we receive a check based on the weight and current market value of the aluminum dumped. We then forward the check to St. Barnabas burn Foundation.
FMBA Firefighter Baseball Card Program-All members of the Summit FMBA 54 have participated in this program.
Kids can stop by the firehouse and request a FMBA 54 firefighter or fire apparatus baseball card. There are 40 card in total, one for each member of the career department and one card for each fire apparatus.  These cards feature a fire safety tip and fact about the Summit Fire Department, collect yours now.
Special Olympics Plane Pull-Each year the Summit FMBA participates with a team of 20 firefighters in an effort to pull a jet plane 20 feet down a runway at Newark Liberty International Airport.  This endeavor is to help raise money for the Special Olympics.
Christmas at Overlook Hospital-On December 24th of each year, a group of FMBA firefighters assemble at Summit Fire Headquarters and then drive to Toys R Us to purchase gifts for children who are spending their holiday in the hospital.
We then return to the firehouse and wrap the gifts before heading up to Overlook Hospital where Santa visits each child and gives him or her a gift and wish of a happy holiday.
Toys for Tots-The United States Marine Corp., Summit FMBA and Summit PBA distributes large boxes for toy collection at specific locations for children who are less fortunate.  These toys are collected and then transported to a larger collection site where the toys will then be distributed. We thank you for your support.
Atlantic Region Burn Camp-FMBA members travel to Connecticut to help out at the burn camp.  The Burn Camp is a getaway for children who have been burned.
Fallen Hero's 5K Run-This 5K run takes place at Bar Anticipation (Bar A) Lake Como,  NJ.  The money raised benefits the family members of our fallen hero's.
Christmas at the Firehouse-This is a social event at the firehouse where members and their families get together to celebrate the holidays.
National Fallen Firefighter Memorial Weekend-A group of FMBA members travel to Emmitsburg, Maryland where the United States Fire Academy and Fallen Firefighter Memorial is located.  These members have been chosen by the National Fallen Firefighter Foundation Board of Directors to assist in duties of setting up, escorting family members, pipes and drums, honor guard and other duties.  This is a weekend dedicated to honor all firefighters that have died in the line of duty the previous year.  Family members come to this memorial to honor the service and sacrifice their loved one and other firefighters have made.  This weekend consist of a wreath laying, welcoming family members, chapel vigil, activities for the kids, Red Helmet ride motorcycle parade, candlelight vigil and the memorial service.
Donations are always welcome to the foundation to pay for lodging and meals and to assist in travel expenses.
